Alimah Hall, Postpartum Doula
Alimah is a certified Postpartum Doula and a graduate of Birthingway College’s lactation consultation program (sitting for the board exam in April, 2018). She is a Michigan native who fell in love with the Pacific Northwest while on a road trip in 1996. Within the year, she had traded her snow shovel for a gore-tex jacket, and made Portland her home.
Alimah’s interest in working with babies began when she was a young girl. While her siblings and cousins were playing with their age-mates, Alimah could be found at the side of whichever aunt had most recently had a baby. Alimah was a stay-at-home mom for many years, and while it was extremely fulfilling to nurture her family, her own postpartum experience was often isolating and she didn’t know how to find the support she needed. As her own three children grew older, her nurturing spirit called her back to working with babies and their families to provide the support she herself didn’t know how to enlist.
Alimah's calm presence and warm spirit create a comforting environment in the homes of the new families she serves. Her desire is to support families in the precious and fleeting postpartum period, while empowering them to become confident in their own parenting skills.
Alimah has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, with endorsements in early childhood education and special education. In her free time, she enjoys being in nature, drinking tea with her teenage daughters, and dreaming up the next big road trip.
