Sasha Wright, IBCLC & Postpartum Doula
Sasha is a International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and Birthingway Certified Postpartum Doula. She was born and raised in the United Kingdom, but moved to the United States in 2010 with her husband and four children (two boys and twin girls). They had planned to stay for only 3 years, but after falling in love with the Pacific Northwest, the family are now proud to call Portland, Oregon their home.
Sasha was the first person in her family to breastfeed and it all came as a bit of a shock to her. Her first experience was very difficult and after receiving lots of support from local breastfeeding groups, she realized she wanted to support families in a similar way. She has been volunteering as a breastfeeding peer supporter for over 10 years now and recently sat for the IBCLC exam in 2018.
After moving to America Sasha discovered that families did not receive the same amount of family leave as she had been lucky to have in the UK; this sparked her passion for postpartum doula work. Her own mother is her inspiration for the way Sasha supports families; she was always in awe of how her “mum” could care for the babies, keep the household running, all while providing non-judgmental support. Her goal is to create a calm environment where families feel safe, supported and listened to.
When she is not snuggling babies, Sasha teaches Jazzercise classes and volunteers as a La Leche Leader. She feels she is the luckiest person alive to be able to combine her two favorite things — dancing and babies. In her free time she enjoys hanging out with her family, whether that be watching their favorite shows together, or hiking and camping in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. She also enjoys anything crafty — especially sewing and crochet.
