Brita Johnson

Lead Doula | she/her

Brita is an incredible caregiver, wise woman, mom and friend. She’s had a deep impact on our lives.”

——Sarah K., mom of one

Brita enjoyed the support of a birth doula when her daughter was born. But, as she prepared for the birth of her second child, she felt uncertain about how to manage the increased workload and changing family dynamic that would come after labor and delivery. Brita’s decision to hire a postpartum doula had an immediate positive impact when her son was born. It made all the difference in the life of her growing family to have a knowledgeable, warm, non-judgmental person lend a hand and act as a sounding board. This experience provided focus to Brita’s professional experience in family outreach, sparked her passion, and launched her into a new career as a postpartum doula.

Brita is inspired by a quote from Dr. Dimitri A. Christakis, “Change the beginning of the story and you change the whole story.” She loves being able to support parents at a new and vulnerable time in their lives, and does this gently by stepping into the patterns of a family’s day and offering the information and hands-on care parents need to feel rested, strong, and confident as parents and as partners. Brita is a warm, compassionate, organized, and insightful person who is comfortable offering space when parents need to express their feelings and receive validation or reassurance. She identifies as a generalist and a facilitator who knows a little about a lot of things. Brita is naturally curious, will follow questions down a rabbit hole until she discovers an answer, and loves helping people identify strategies for managing new issues in a way that fits them as parents.

When she’s not snuggling newborns and nurturing their parents, Brita can be found cross-country skiing, hiking, or biking with her children. She loves to read, cook, craft, and continues to find humor in the everyday adventures of parenting.
