At Bridgetown Baby, we believe being a doula is sacred, transformative work. It is community-care in action. Which is why we strive to take care of our team members as well as we take care of our clients. 

Bridgetown Baby affiliated postpartum doulas work in a collaborative team model alongside other postpartum doulas and our administrative Care Team. As Independent Contractors, Bridgetown Baby affiliated doulas choose their own schedule and focus their energy on caring for their clients without worrying about administrative work.

Pathway to Recertification for Bridgetown Baby Doulas

Bridgetown Baby (BB) is proud to offer a pathway for recertification for previously certified doulas who have worked with BB for at least one year. We strive to make doula work a sustainable career, and offering complimentary recertification is one way we support our team in doing this important work for the long term.

Requirements:

  1. Initial Certification

    Already received certification from an outside organization.

  2. Hours

    Have worked at least 500 hours as a Certified Postpartum Doula or supported 10 postpartum doula clients.

  3. Continuing Education

    Have completed 10 hours of continuing education. This may include Bridgetown Baby provided classes as well as outside CEUs.

  4. DEI Training

    Have completed  4 hours of anti-racism/social justice training.  Bridgetown Baby’s social justice study group would count. 

Bridgetown Baby certification is valid for two years.

Bridgetown Baby Doula

POSITION TITLE: Postpartum Doula
LOCATION: Greater Portland/SW Washington
POSITION TYPE: Independent Contractor, Hourly; Exempt

Position Description

Bridgetown Baby is Portland’s premier postpartum care group.Bridgetown Baby seamlessly combines the expertise of postpartum doulas and lactation consultants to provide families with wrap-around postpartum care so they can ease into their new life with strength and confidence. 

Bridgetown Baby is seeking Overnight Postpartum Doulas to work as Independent Contractors caring for families in the Greater Portland/SW Washington area. 

Contractor rate is commensurate with training, education, and experience. Each family is a new contract/project.

We are passionate about providing the highest quality care for the families we serve while expanding our training, critically examining our biases, and actively creating social change. 

We believe high quality postpartum care starts with happy, highly-trained doulas who earn a living wage. For Bridgetown Baby affiliated doulas, we offer free continuing education, a monthly social justice study group, and ongoing mentorship.

Scope of Work 

  • Care for postpartum parents, infants, and siblings by providing informational,  emotional, and physical support including cooking, light housework, play, etc.

  • Teach newborn skills to families, including diapering, swaddling, baby-wearing, safe sleep habits, bathing, umbilical cord care, etc.

  • Provide non-judgemental feeding support including breast/chest/bottle feeding.

  • Make appropriate referrals for care/services.

Requirements

  • Current certification as a postpartum doula or working toward certification.

  • Current CPR Certification/First Aid Certification.

  • Current professional liability insurance.

  • Follow safe COVID practices.

  • Infant care experience.

  • Ability to work during the day for 5 hours or overnight for 10 hours.

  • Must be vaccinated against Covid-19, DTaP, Hepatitis A & B, MMR.
