Resources for Raising Race-Conscious Kids: October Edition

As an agency, Bridgetown Baby is deeply committed both to confronting bias within ourselves and dismantling the systemic racism that literally and figuratively stifles the potential of our BIPOC* community members. The work starts with us; it continues with our children - and we are their most important teachers. Each month, we'll be sharing resources for talking with kids about bias and celebrating differences.

There are as many ways to form a family as there are individuals in the world - and we delight in all the ways!

The Great Big Book of Families is a creative cacophony of families of all shapes and sizes that have formed, function and enjoy life in many different ways. With clear text by Mary Hoffman and with charming illustrations by Ros Asquith, the book brings young readers into conversation on subjects ranging from racial diversity, disability, poverty, adoption, and working parents to holidays, pets, emotions and celebrations

Perfect for normalizing the diversity of families in our communities, and great for the holidays, with its mention of various traditions, this book brings the message home (whatever that home may look like): family (whatever form it takes) is something to celebrate!

You can find The Great Big Book of Families at Powell’s or at your local library.
