At Bridgetown Baby, Mamas Day is more than just a celebration—it's a call to action.
Each May, we honor the caregivers, nurturers, and fierce advocates who mother in all the ways that matter most by rallying our community around a cause that supports families.
This year, we are putting our combined strength behind the work of the Immigrant Families Support Fund, which offers direct financial assistance for families with pregnancies, infants, and toddlers who impacted by ICE detention.
Why IFSF?
The Immigrant Families Support Fund is a collaboration between Rose City Birthworker Coalition and a local mutual aid group working with families impacted by ICE detention and deportation.
This group has offered rapid response post-detention support for over 175 families in the Portland Metro area over the past 9 months. This work includes emotional support and accompaniment, help to navigate the detention system, immediate access to food and household supplies, connection to legal and social service resources, eviction prevention, fundraising, and more.
Rose City Birthworker Coalition’s role is to help families get connected with doula support and essential resources like food, diapers, baby wipes, baby/toddler clothes, and other material support during pregnancy and postpartum.
Why Now?
Oregon is one of five US states with the largest year-over-year increases in ICE arrests (1). In Oregon, Washington and Alaska, more than 850 immigration apprehensions were made each month between October and December, 2025 - up from 201 total immigration apprehensions over the same period in 2024 (2). Portland’s Multnomah County saw a 600% spike in ICE arrests in fall of 2025, while Washington County, with the metro area’s largest concentration of Latino residents, experienced a 2,100% increase in ICE arrests (3). The months-long federal immigration enforcement campaign focused on the Portland area ended with 1,100 arrests across the state (4). The youngest person detained in the PNW anti-immigrant campaign was 4 years old (1).
The Immigrant Families Support Fund is a collaboration between Rose City Birthworker Coalition and a local mutual aid group working with families impacted by ICE detention and deportation. The fund is responding to a crisis of hunger and eviction for families whose breadwinners (1) were detained when they went out to work, shop, or even attend an immigration-specific meeting. This includes families who are pregnant, parenting newborns, and caring for young children and elders.
IFSF provides emotional support and accompaniment, help to navigate the detention system, immediate access to food and household supplies, connection to legal and social service resources, eviction prevention, fundraising, and more. As part of the partnership, Rose City Birthworker Collective connects families with culturally-matched doula support and essential resources like food, diapers, baby wipes, baby/toddler clothes, and other material support for pregnancy and the postpartum period.
